Four weeks is not a lot of time to put together a band, especially one that writes high-quality, roof-shaking songs. The Back Pockets, however, have pulled it off! Through hard work and “obsessive” practice, this art-rock group delivered an incredible show atWonderRoot last night. I expect great things from this band, whose songs can currently be heard on MySpace. I’m looking forward to more concerts and, hopefully, an album of some kind! Keep up the good work, y'all!

A REVIEW...
The secret is now out about The Back Pockets. Simply stated, one of the most eclectic, original and unique groups in America today. On Friday, September 5, The Back Pockets performed their first show to a receptive but small crowd at Wonder Root, in Atlanta. If you were there then you no doubt walked away feeling good after this show.
The Back Pockets is composed of the following members:
EM, the head creative,set designer,vocalist,songwriter
LINDSEY, mandarin,vocalist,songwriter
MARTY, lead guitar,sound technician
DANNY, bass,vocalist,songwriter
CONOR, banjo,vocalist,songwriter
RYAN, drums,vocalist
JEFF, doumbek,vocalist
AVIVA, keyboard,vocalist,trumpet,songwriter
Collectively, this is quite a talented group.
There is a second show scheduled sometime in early December, I think it's the 6th. The location will be Eyedrum. If you missed this singularly spectacular performance at Wonder Root, then you must see their next performance. It will astound you.
Musically speaking it is difficult, at best, to label this band. Their influences come from everywhere. The set began with a Sanskrit bhajan, and ended with a raucous song about pubic hair. In between, there was a mix of bluegrass, smoky jazz and pure energetic rock. It's simply impossible to label this music, except to say its a positive experience. In the words of EM, "Don't put me in a box, man."

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOW:
local artist em! set a date w/ wonder root to perform a show sep. 5th. Having no band or art ready, she then sent out a call to a hundred or so musicians and artists in atlanta area to create a show in less than a month. What has remained out of the madness and exhaustion from the last couple weeks is a band dubbed "the back pockets" a interesting gaggle of 8 or so artists and musicians of varying levels of experience in both fields; a slightly unhinged but all-for-the-better director of creative masses; and a show that will be strange, spontaneous, and exciting both to perform and watch.

of any shape size make kind loud soft small large pretty ugly old new vintage toy homemade. whatever! We now have a couple parctices under our belts and a set list has begun to appear. Please bring your ideas for songs or skits or visual flair and add to the pile!
**NOTE** THIS IS THE 2ND TO LAST OPEN PRACTICE, NEXT TUESDAY AUG. 18TH WILL BE THE LAST CHANCE FOR YOU TO JOIN IN ON THE PILE. so grab yerself a dern instrument and join! we also practice other places on other days, so if yous in, you gotta be IN (know what i mean jellybeans).
